Camping 2024
A camping trip in the German black forest plus a roadtrip on the side.
It begins
Day 1
We begin our walk from a parking lot where we left our car.
My friend wanted to do 20km the first day but I suggested going in a straight line towards our camp and it was the worst because we had to cut through a big forest to get there.
We passed by small villages with a lot of cute houses.
Good Camp
Still day 1
The camp had great conditions, likely because it sat close to a village. We had water and even a fridge with cold drinks. The camp was unsupervised so we had to leave money in a can.
My friends wasted 4 whole firestarters so I had to step up and show them how it's done.
To be fair, the wood was really wet due to the rain the previous day, but I procured dry plant material around the camp along with twigs and used a firestarter to start a small fire that dried the big logs and eventually set fire to them.
Towards Sankt Blasien
Day 2
After my shitty suggestion we decided to actually follow the trails and we eventually figured out that the trail symbols could be seen on trees and poles throughout the trail.
On the way to the next camp we passed by a tower and climbed it. The view was amazing.
Our trail passed through a major town and the trail symbols could still be spotted here and there, leading us the right way through it.
Worst Camp
Still day 2
From Sankt Blasien we had to climb a huge hill all the way up to our camp. Along the way we saw a ton of mini waterfalls.
This camp didn't have the best conditions. The water was straight from the river and even after boiling it it still had a weird smell, color, and taste.
Not that I had any issues since I conserved my water unlike them who chugged it all out.
Carry On
Day 3
Got woken up by a woodpecker and couldn't go back to sleep. Tried to find him but didn't see anything up in the trees. Eventually a bird came along and posed for a nice photo.
We decided to refuel our water in Sankt Blasien since it had big supermarkets, and we ended up getting a few snacks and some fruit too.
That little detour ended up costing us 2-3 hours but we carried on our little adventure.
The following camp was right by a small village with a public drinking water fountain so we refueled our water there.
Best Camp
Still day 3
The last camp was amazing, the campfire was really cool and we even had a table. The river by the camp was also big enough to bathe in.
We unfortunately didn't have a grill unlike the first camp so we had to heat up a rock in the fire and use that to cook chorizo.
Vacation Home
Day 4
It was a rainy day so we decided to catch a bus to the car park instead of trekking there.
We then drove to a vacation home we rented and scouted the area. It was a really nice cozy town.
Strasbourg
Day 5
The roadtrip begins, and we first head towards Strasbourg. We walked around and climbed the Notre-Dame. The pics from above were incredibly mid so I won't be showing them.
After climbing back down we decided to have a little snack. At this point we realized we never took note of where we had parked the car so we went through google maps trying to retrace our steps.
Colmar
Still day 5
We found the car and drove south towards Colmar.
The time in colmar was spent just walking around randomly and getting lost. Got to photograph tons of cute half-timbered houses and found the gochiusa places.
Eventually we sat down to have a tarte flambée and drinks. I forgot to take pics of the food but I got a pic of the drink.
Kaysersberg
Still day 5
After running several laps around colmar we decided to visit a nearby town. Like colmar, it has a lot of cute half-timbered houses, however it has a lot less people and a more calm atmosphere.
It also has a castle up on a hill from which you can see the whole town and the hundreds of vineyards. Afterwards we looked for a restaurant and had dinner before returning home.
Secret Stash
Day 6It rained the whole morning so we stayed inside. After it cleared up we followed an interesting spot we found on google maps. It was an unsupervised alcohol stash in someone's garden. We each had 5 shots and left the money in the box.
Waterfall
Day 7
On the final day we visited an incredibly mediocre waterfall and clock. The black forest cake was also terrible because for some reason it's bitter.
At least I saw a cute squirrel.
